European Museum Academy Director.

European Museum Forum Director from 2000 to 2009 and member of the Jury of the European Museum of the Year Award  and the Council of Europe Museum Prize from 1983 to 2009. Member of the Scientific Committee of the Great Museum of the Cathedral (Museo del Duomo) of Milan. Formerly  Scientific Director of the Genus Bononiae museums network. He served also as member of the Scientific Committee of the National Museum of Science and Technology “Leonardo da Vinci” in Milan. And was invited to participate into the preparatory work for the Diocesean Museum and the museum of design both in Milan.

 Scientific Director of the Executive Master Course in European Museology, IULM University, Milan, Professor of  museology at the State University of Padua. He also teaches museology at the European Institute of Design in Venice. Twice Fulbrighter at the Pennsylvania State University  and at the Smithsonian Institution.

Independent temporary exhibition specialist and an active lecturer on industrial archaeology, more than 150 publications in this field as well as on museological matters in general. As a consultant to the Municipality of Milan for exhibition programming and museum innovation from 1993 to 1997 , he took part into the start up stage of various important projects, like the renovation of Palazzo Reale, the restyling of the Museum of Milan and the Museum of Contemporary History, etc. he has directed several museums project such as the Casa De Gasperi Museum, the plan for the restyling of the Museum of Water in Lisbon, the Museum of the History of Bologna, the Museum of Music in Pieve di Cento, the Museums of Prints in Pieve Tesino. As a Member of the Scientific Committee he has also followed the planning of the Museum of Industry and Labour network in Brescia. He is member of the group winning the Oslo Forum Artis international context (at present under construction).

He has also curated  many temporary exhibitions on various subjects , mainly about modern and social  history and industrial heritage, and contributed to various European Union Project (BRICKS, LEM, VoCH and others) .

 In 1993 awarded the Orden of Isabela la Catolica by the King of Spain.
